Ph.D. Candidate

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Faculty of Medicine

Abbi's project is focused on identifying the physiological impacts of infection on honey bee queens and investigating the trade-off between reproduction and immunity. She is a PhD student in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UBC and is supervised by Dr. Leonard Foster, whose lab she started working in while completing her BSc in Biochemistry. Abbi has had a fascination with bees since she was a child but didn't get to start working with them until she joined Dr. Foster's lab. In the 4 years since, she has loved getting to know and work with beekeepers and other bee researchers, getting drawn more and more into the world of bees!
